Les Buckarettes-! Oui! - July 1, 2009

This is an article from Cri du Coyote, a French Magazine devoted to American and Americana Music (translated from le French!)

Some line-up changes since their second CD, reviewed in le Cri. Founding members Katie Gill et Debra Jean Parker Harris are now joined by Susan Clark (voc, ac, clav) Amy Blackburn (voc, fdle) and Jared Putnam (uprbs), which has just improved their vocal harmonies, already very neat and tight. This 3rd CD, like the previous ones, is almost equally shared between western swing or hillbilly bop tracks, western and country ballads and includes a third of self-penned songs, mainly from Susan. The leading tracks are the covers of Pee Wee King (Birds and the bees and Slowpoke) the excellent hillbilly boppers Whoa baby and Forget-me-nots, the ballads Adobe hacienda, in a Marty Robbins style, Mama!s rocking chair and the waltz Fall in love again waltz. My only regret is that they don’t issue albums more often. -- Bernard Boyat

We Won Country Album of the Year! - June 1, 2009

Each year solo acts, duos and groups of all musical genres vie for kudos with their newest recording projects of that particular year. They enter them in a state-wide contest that is judged by "outsider" singer/songwriters who have written songs for the stars. "Cowgirl Serenade", the Buckarettes' newest addition to their repertoire of CD's made it to the top of the list in the Country category of contestants. They couldn't be at the ceremony, due to a prior commitment to a private engagement, so Rick Huff, a proponent of Western music and founder of the famous "Best of the West" reviews, accepted the award for them. Another feather in the proverbial cowgirl hat of the Buckies!
